I hear lots of stories of people who could use some assistance getting through hard times. Most of them say, "Oh, I don't need therapy. I just go for a walk." or "I have friends." or "I already know what I need to do."
They prove that they do not understand the role of therapy.
Therapy allows us to get an unbiased opinion about what we are dealing with. And that is invaluable. I believe that most individuals who say these things are actually afraid of knowing themselves better. Because self-discovery is hard.
That's why I applaud everyone who seeks therapy. That includes myself. Learning more about my habits, my tendencies, and my outlooks helps me unlearn those that are not healthy and apply myself to those that are.
So, if you are working on yourself, remember that you are the brave one.
